JPY announce "mobile backups made easy" with Backup2Go

16th November 2009

A modern mobile workforce represents a difficult problem for administrators trying to manage backups on constantly moving laptops. Backup2Go solves these problems with a range of innovative approaches to the problem.

Backup2Go allows workstations to connect to the backup-server whether they are in the office, at home or on the road. The available internet connection is used, and only changed files are added to the backup. Backup2Go also keeps its data secure with industrial-strength encryption.

Remote workstation configuration makes life easier for both administrators and users. Workstations and laptops can be added to the backup centrally from the server and the solution can be deployed transparently without involving the workstation owner in the setup process. Backups will run invisibly without input from the user.

"With laptops now outselling desktop computers and nearly one in eight UK employees working from home, it is vital that employers reconsider their backup strategies and ensure they are providing adequate cover for home workers," commented Dr John Yardley, CEO of JPY. "With its unique remote snapshot backup and de-duplication across the internet PresSTORE 3.2 is a reliable and affordable solution, which ensures all critical data on company laptops and workstations is securely backed up and, just as importantly, can be quickly and easily recovered and restored when needed, in order to minimise any downtime."

PresSTORE 3.2 also includes several other advanced features such as a graphical storage pool and volume manager. This gives administrators an easy-to-use representation of used and free storage capacity – both on tape and disk. Quicktime support for both Windows and Macs, allows rapid previewing of archived media files. PresSTORE 3.2 also includes simplified tape management and labelling to make life as easy as possible for IT workers.

ARCHIWARE intends to follow-up this release with an update to include full snapshot-backup support for Windows servers, plus a free iPhone application allowing mobile monitoring of PresSTORE jobs.

ARCHIWARE PresSTORE 3.2 is available now. For further information, or to arrange a demonstration, feel free to contact Systems Support on 01799 531777 or visit:

New OsiriX 'lite' version coming soon

7th November 2009

OsiriX are beta testing a lightweight version of their free Dicom viewer specifically designed for incorporation when you want to burn Dicom CDs and DVDs.

Taking up much less storage space than a regular version of the application - just 10Mb rather than 140Mb - it will mean faster burning too

Functions such as 3D VR, MPR, DICOM Q&R have been omitted from OsiriX Lite but it should still be a good stand-alone Dicom viewer for CDs and DVDs you need to send out to others.
